This year's FIFA Best Awards will take place in September, with Cristiano Ronaldo keen to win his third honour in a row
This year's FIFA Best Awards take place this September following a star-studded affair last year when Cristiano Ronaldo took home the top award.
The Juventus striker will be looking to make it three awards in a row in the Best Men's Award category after beating perennial rival Lionel Messi to the top prize in previous years.
The biggest surprise for this year's awards, however, is the omission of Messi in the final three of the award.
Here is everything you need to know about the FIFA Best Awards including when it is, the nominees, voting process and past winners.
When are the FIFA Best Awards?
This year's FIFA Best Awards will be held on September 24 in London at the Royal Festival Hall. The Best Awards have been presented by the governing body since 2016 and are aimed at reviving the old FIFA World Player of the Year prize, which was merged with the Ballon d'Or in 2010.
The ceremony will be held at the Royal Festival Hall in London and events are scheduled to get started at roughly 7:30pm BST (2:30pm ET). Award-winning actor Idris Elba returns to host proceedings after presiding over last year's ceremony and he will be joined by French journalist Anne-Laure Bonnet.
The FIFA Best Awards are split into nine separate categories, including: Best Men's Player, Best Goalkeeper, Best Men's Coach, Best Women's Player, Best Women's Coach, the FIFA Fair Play Award, FIFA Puskas Award, FIFA Fan Award and the FIFA FIFPro World11.
Ronaldo, Lieke Martens, Gianluigi Buffon, Zinedine Zidane and Sarina Wiegman were among the award winners last year, with the Portuguese superstar lifting the award for the third consecutive time.
Olivier Giroud's scorpion kick for Arsenal against Crystal Palace was given the Puskas Award.
Players chosen for the FIFPro World 11 included Buffon as goalkeeper, Dani Alves, Leonardo Bonucci, Sergio Ramos, and Marcelo as defenders, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, and Andres Iniesta as midfielders, and Lionel Messi, Ronaldo, and Neymar as forwards.
Who are the nominees for this year's FIFA Best Awards?
Ten players were initially shortlisted for this year's awards with the selection panels announced on July 4.
The criteria for the best men's players include their respective achievements from July 3, 2017 to July 15, 2018.
For the men's best player awards this year, the top three finalists include Ronaldo, Luka Modric and Mohamed Salah – with there no room for Messi in the top three.
The Best FIFA Men's Player nominees:

Cristiano Ronaldo Juventus Portugal
Mohamed Salah Liverpool Egypt
Ronaldo and Modric helped Real Madrid to their Champions League win in May, while Salah broke record after record at Liverpool where he scored 44 goals during his mesmerising debut season.
The final longlist included Antoine Griezmann and Raphael Varane with Harry Kane and Salah representing players competing in the Premier League, while Paris Saint-Germain's Kylian Mbappe was the sole Ligue 1 candidate.
The Best FIFA Men's Coach nominees:
CoachTeamCountryDider Deschamps France national team France
Zlatko Dalic Croatia national team Croatia
Zinedine Zidane Real Madrid (former) France
The final nominees in The Best Men's Coach category are former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane, who clinched a third successive Champions League trophy with Los Blancos last season, France's World Cup-winning manager Didier Deschamps and Croatia manager Zlatko Dalic, whose team were beaten finalists at Russia 2018.
Among the coaches to miss out on the final three slots were Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp, Gareth Southgate and Diego Simeone. Jose Mourinho was not nominated for the award.
The Best FIFA Women's Player nominees:

Dzsenifer Marozsan Lyon Germany
Marta Orlando Pride Brazil
Lyon boast two players in the shortlist for The Best FIFA Women's Player award, with Ada Hegerberg and Dzsenifer Marozsan included after helping the club to a Ligue 1 and Champions League double.
Also joining Hegerberg and Marozsan in the running is Brazil forward Marta, who has made the cut after helping Orlando Pride to the NWSL Play-offs and captaining her country to Copa America Femenina glory.
The Best FIFA Women's Coach nominees:
CoachTeamCountryReynald Pedros Lyon France
Asako Takakura Japan national team Japan
Sarina Wiegman Netherlands national team Netherlands
The finalists for The Best FIFA Women's Coach award are Lyon manager Reynald Pedros, who steered his side to Ligue 1 and Champions League success - going unbeaten in the former, Japan coach Asako Takakura, who won the Asian Cup, and Netherlands boss Sarina Wiegman.
The Best FIFA Goalkeeper nominees:
CoachClubCountryThibaut Courtois Chelsea / Real Madrid Belgium
Hugo Lloris Tottenham France
Kasper Schmeichel Leicester City Denmark
Thibaut Courtois, Hugo Lloris and Kasper Schmeichel are the three finalists for the FIFA Best Goalkeeper award.
Tottenham shot-stopper Lloris is perhaps the stand-out candidate after captaining France to World Cup glory, but Courtois and Schmeichel each had impressive campaigns for both club and country.
FIFA Puskas Award Nominees
As well as discovering who the best players for the past season were, FIFA's The Best Awards ceremony will also see the scorer of the best goal crowned, with the Puskas Award up for grabs.
Competition is particularly fierce this time round, with overhead kicks from Gareth Bale and Ronaldo on the 10-goal shortlist, as well as strikes by Messi and Salah.
FIFA The Best Fan Award nominees
As well as recognising the prodigious skills and achievements of players, FIFA pays tribute to the supporters of the game with The Best Fan award.
Last year Celtic's supporters were crowned the world's best, but this season's shortlist is dominated by national team fans, owing to the World Cup in Russia.
Japan and Senegal's fans are grouped together for their efforts to clean up after themselves following matches at the tournament. Fans of Peru were also acknowledged as they turned up in force to back their country at their first World Cup in 36 years.
Interestingly, while the other two candidates are for groups of fans, the final nominee is an individual. Sebastian Carrera showed his dedication to Puerto Montt when he was the only fan to make a 3000km round trip for their game against Coquimbo and the hosts were forced to open an entire tribune just for him.
Who will perform at the FIFA Best Awards?
Former Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher will be performing at the FIFA Best Awards this year, with his solo group Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds.
The band released their third studio effort as the band in November 2017 titled 'Who Shot the Moon?', and the performance comes just days after Noel Gallagher lost out on the Mercury Prize for the album to London indie-rock band Wolf Alice.
Gallagher is also a keen Manchester City fan and has been spotted at the Etihad (alongside friend and fellow musician Johnny Marr) from time to time.
How does voting work for the FIFA Best Awards?
Fans had the chance to cast their votes for the Best FIFA Men's Player, Best FIFA Women's Player, Best FIFA Men's Coach and Best FIFA Women's Coach awards earlier this summer.
Fan votes count for 25 per cent of the final vote, with FIFA's selection committee finalising the decisions.
The remaining 75 per cent will be distributed evenly between the national coaches of FIFA Member Associations, their team captains and a select group of football journalists from those countries.
The selection panel to shortlist the initial Best Men's Player and Best Men's Coach awards include a host of former footballing greats such as Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba, Kaka, Fabio Capello and Ronaldo Nazario.
