1) Always update the WordPress software regularly. It is highly recommended. The current WordPress version is WP 3.2.1. Make sure you are now with this latest version. Moreover, download this version from the official website of WordPress.
2) Always have good password strength. Cracking the password is the easiest way of hacking. So, make sure the password to your WordPress blog is very strong. A good password must have combination of alphabets, numbers and symbols.
3) Always take good care of file access permission. Follow WordPress Codex to know better what permissions must be used.
4) Keep an eye on .htaccess file. It will be at the default folder of your hosting. This feature can be used in blocking some IP addresses that
may be creating problem to your blog.
5) Secret keys use is very necessary in wp-config.php. It is a must as it contains all the information about database connectivity like the username and password. With the use of secret keys there, hackers find more difficulties in hacking your blog.
6) Always use secured WordPress plugin.
7) The WordPress blog has a default feature of a Login link on the blog. Remove this link as it make hackers easier to gain access to your account.
8 ) Always keep a backup of your database. Do this regularly. This will help you in forgery or if contents are deleted after the blog get hacked.
9) Disable the right click function of your blog. This is not of much use but its tricky. It will not allow your visitor to get the source code of your blog. Anyway, source code can be availed by pressing buttons ‘cntrl’ + ‘U’ also.
10) Make empty wp-content/plugins/index.html file. It may happen that you leak some secret information of your account through the plug-ins you are running on the blog. A hacker may easily discover the information from out-of-date plugin and gain access to your WordPress account.
11) If you are using free themes for your WordPress blog then be careful. Sometimes free themes may have bugs.
