Google seems to be on the verge of launching a secret "X" project that uses giant aircraft-like kites to generate renewable electricity.
Makani Power is developing airborne turbines with the support of Google's research and development facility. If the plan succeeds, the need for expensive construction materials and labor for wind-turbine power will be eliminated, but after more than 10 years of development, kites have not yet been used after the test.

The project began in 2008, using kite fabric capable of generating about 2 kW of energy. By 2010, energy-producing kite planes were built with solid wings that could produce more energy. However, the list of new jobs led to speculation that the project could be entering a new phase after Google published a new job posting on LinkedIn on October 19, Project "Makani X", indicating the transition of the company to a new stage more advanced.
The latest version of the Makani paper was launched in pilot flights in December 2016. It produced 600 kilowatts of power, enough electricity to operate around 300 homes.
