The picture above, posted to Barack Obama's Facebook profile around 11:15 p.m. Tuesday, is now Facebook's most-liked photo of all time, with more than 3.2 million "likes" and counting. The page Facebook + Journalists confirmed the landmark early Wednesday morning
Meanwhile, the same photo, posted to Obama's Twitter feed, is also the most-retweeted ever,
according to NBC News, which notes that it stole the crown from Justin
Bieber. Twitter spokeswoman Rachael Horwitz could not confirm the
distinction this morning, though she did confirm that it's at least
Obama's most-retweeted photo ever. At last count it had been retweeted
some 660,000 times.
Just four years ago, it would have been almost unfathomable that a
private photo shared by the campaign directly with its supporters—as
opposed to a candid shot snapped by a press photographer—could become
the most iconic of a presidential election. But such is the power of
social media.
